Blankie Makeover

When Caleb was born, I made him a tag blanket that to my delight he attached to. Well, the problem was that he only liked one particular tag on it and in two years, he has worn it to threads. In order to "fix" the ribbon issue, I would have to take apart his whole blanket, insert new ribbons and sew it back up. This could only be done after he went to sleep not requesting his "de-de" as he calls it for some reason.

So I finally did it last night. It took two attempts to retrieve the blanket from him so not as to wake him. I had everything ready to go by the sewing machine to make it quick as possible. I decided to keep a few of the old ribbons (including his favorite) and put in several of the type he likes which was the large satin. You can kinda see the very worn ribbon on the bottom right of the blankie in the picture.

Well the results are in. He did not reject it as slightly feared. But, he has still only rubbed the old tag and not the nice soft new ones. Oh well, maybe after it falls off he will resort to one of the others.

Pathetic Pooch

I don't recall if I've ever mentioned my dog, Tori, on this blog (yes, she's a little low on the totem poll). However, she's always been a good dog. She's sweet and patient with the kids even when Caleb pulls her ears. Her defense mechanism to that is to lick him in the face so that he backs off!

Anyway, she had to have a little tumor removed from her paw the other day and she is still limping looking pretty pathetic. This is the first time she's ever had to have anything like this done and she is 10 years old! Caleb will sometimes go up to her collar and pat it saying "hat, hat!"

A little busy lately

I've wanted to post a few things for some time now and just haven't had the time to sit and do it all. A few weeks ago I started full time night shift so my husband could quit his job and look for another. I am back in the CCU and it has really been fun to do some "hard core" nursing. Thankfully Erik found another one quickly and will start next week. But, I am committed for a while longer at mine so we will just enjoy the double income for a little bit. When he left that job however, we had to give up both our cars because we got them through his work - so now we are double car shopping - sounds REALLY fun huh? Unfortunately he also gave up a sizable contribution towards the adoption by his former employer. Oh well, it will be provided somehow. I can always raffle off Ipods right Hayley?
Alexia started school as I have posted, we had a double birthday party for her and Caleb (another thing I haven't posted about). This past weekend we had grandparents visit from Florida which was fun.
Then Monday my sister that lives in Holland calls me and tells me she found out she is expecting TWINS!!! So now I know I gotta stash some money aside to go help take care of them all when the babies come. You have to hop over to her site, she's got a cute little boy who will be two tomorrow. (Yes, us two sisters have little boys 5 days apart.) And he is super silly like his momma!
On top of all that - somewhere within the past 2 weeks or so I reached my goal of 100 quilt squares received for our Good Wishes Quilt. I actually have more than that now! I need to really catch up on our quilt blog - I am SO behind - that's' my next project I guess!
I am still here, I am just a little overloaded for the time being trying to keep all the balls in the air. Keep checking in!

RockYou FXText - Get Your Own

Caleb turned two today. There was a little celebration in the house before the party tomorrow. Dad was home, so we took him to Chick-fil-A which is his favorite just for the lemonade and cows alone! I made some cupcakes while he took a nap and he had big smiles as we all sang Happy Birthday to him with his "sissy" at his side. He got a train table with all the fixins from us and his mimi and papa Jacques who are coming in tomorrow for the party. Isn't he adorable??

First Day Report

Alexia's first day of school went great. Her favorite part was "riding the bus!" I don't know what the attraction of riding a big vehicle with no air in 100 degree heat is, but I guess she liked seeing all the neighborhood friends together. In the morning she rides with our friend who teaches there and her daughter is one of Alexia's best friend's.
School absolutely wore her out. She came home and crashed on the sofa. Not to mention she is recovering from an ear infection. Overall she enjoyed it and had lots to talk about.

Poem for New Kindergarten Mothers

First Day Of Kindergarten School Poem
~Author Unknown~
She started school this morning,
And she seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside her
In the Kindergarten hall.
And as she took her place
besidethe others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.
Remembering, I saw her as
She first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When she began to talk.
This little girl so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though she must have grown
To girlhood overnight.
My eyes were blurred by hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar her first big day.
Oh how I longed to stay with her
And keep her by the hand
To lead her through the places
That she couldn't understand.
And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew she would no longer be
A baby by my side.
But she must have her chance to live,
To work her problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.
And I must share my little girl
With friends and work and play;
She's not a baby anymore --
She's in Kindergarten today.

Oh the Tears!

Well, a big day has come in our family. Our oldest Alexia has gone off to kindergarten. She was so excited this morning I was perfectly able to hold up until her ride came. She was already warned and knew full well to expect tears from me, so I didn't try to be stoic. Erik asked her what she was most excited about and she replied "giving my teachers their apples." It was something she thought of to do for them and picked out two perfect apples at the store yesterday! Here are some of her sweet pictures.

Weekend pictures

We spent the past weekend up at the lake with the intention of trying to help Alexia with her wish to learn how to water ski. It didn't go far and we didn't want to push her, but, she did consent to do what me and my siblings used to do with my dad - she stood on MY skis! It was a bit of a balance struggle, but we didn't fall and she didn't NOT like it. She just said she didn't like the water in her eyes (yes we'll bring the goggles next time!) Here are a few more pics of our weekend with my parents.
